Privacy

Only what the schedule needs.

No accounts, no email addresses and no tracking cookies. Fonts and the site's own images are served from this site. The public pages show one banner ad from adengine.us, described under Advertising below; it is the only outside service any page loads, and it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.

Boards keep only what you type: a business name if you give one, each person's name or initials, age group, optional pay rate and the parent-approval tick, plus shifts, breaks, staffing needs, school days and school hours. Please use first names or initials: the check only needs the age group, so no birthdays, contact details or addresses are asked for. A board lives at a private link; only a one-way hash of the link's code is stored, so we cannot look a board up or send you its link. A board nobody opens for 180 days is deleted, and you can delete yours at any time (Tools → Delete the board).

Backups: the database is copied nightly (the newest 14 copies are kept) and at each site update, so a deleted board can remain inside those copies until they age out. They are never published.

Quick check: nothing is stored. Your answers are in the page address, so they can show in your browser history.

Limits: to stop abuse, the site counts some requests per day using a salted one-way hash of your network address, never the address itself. Counts older than two days are deleted.

Cookies: only a security cookie on pages with a form, so the form cannot be sent from another site. It holds no personal information.

Server logs: the web server keeps ordinary access logs (address, page, time) for security and troubleshooting, as almost every web host does.

When payments start, PayPal will handle the payment; this site will keep only the pass status and the PayPal reference it needs to honour your pass.

Advertising

The public pages of Shore Shift (home, the quick check before you run it, the rules, pricing and how it works) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Boards, weeks, wall sheets, season hours, quick check results, the start-a-board page, this page and the terms show none.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests (the site's address only, never the address of the page you are on).

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.
