Summer crew, scheduled inside the rules.

Lay out the week for your crew. Shore Shift checks every shift a 14-, 15-, 16- or 17-year-old works against Ohio's hours law and the federal rules, shows the hours you are short-handed, and prints the sheet for the wall.

A made-up Friday in July, run through the same check a real board uses. Red bars break a rule; light gaps inside a bar are rests of 30 minutes or more.

Ohio Oct 9, 2026

Ohio changed its teen-hours law in October 2026.

Since October 9, 2026 (House Bill 455), a 14- or 15-year-old in Ohio may work from 7 to 9 PM on a night before a day without school if a parent or guardian approves (R.C. 4109.07(A)(4)). The federal rule for employers it covers still ends the day at 7 PM outside June 1 through Labor Day (29 CFR 570.35(a)(6)). Shore Shift checks both and lists each rule a shift breaks, so you see the stricter one.

Read both rulebooks side by side

One board, three moves, every week.

  1. 1

    Add your crew

First names or initials, an age group and, if you like, a pay rate. No birthdays, phone numbers or addresses: the check only needs the age group.

  2. 2

    Lay out the week

Shifts in quarter hours with their rest breaks, the days school is in session, and how many people you need behind the counter hour by hour.

  3. 3

    Fix it, then post it

Every rule problem is listed with its citation, every short-handed hour is marked, and the wall sheet is ready to print.

Most of the numbers match. The evening hour does not: that is where schedules go wrong.

What Shore Shift is not

  • Not payroll or a time clock. It plans hours; it does not record them or pay anyone.
  • Not legal advice. It checks the hours rules quoted on The rules page. Work permits, jobs minors may not do and pay rules are outside it.
  • Not a messaging app. It never contacts your crew. You post or share the sheet yourself.
